Service Description

– Soil Preparation for Potato Cultivation:
– It’s preferable not to plant potatoes in the same field for two consecutive years, as the soil will become depleted and the risk of disease spread increases. Crop rotation such as “potatoes – beans – corn – wheat – potatoes” is recommended.
– Clover or other leguminous crops can be planted in the soil where potatoes were harvested. Clover growth in potato fields is common in the United States.
– There are two ways to improve soil condition:
– Add good-quality fertilizer two months before planting potatoes.
– Plant a cover crop (leguminous) during autumn and plow the plants under two months before planting potatoes.
– If the soil has been depleted due to continuous potato cultivation, corrective measures may be necessary, and consulting a licensed agricultural engineer is advisable.
For potatoes, primary soil preparation begins during winter (December), about 2-3 months before planting. The land is deeply plowed to remove weeds and rocks, making the soil suitable (soft, clean, and well-aerated) for seed placement. Three plowing sessions, along with repeated harrowing and rolling, are essential before planting potatoes.
